Description
A free training resource from Helen Edgar (Autistic Realms) and Stimpunks Foundation.
Cavendish Space is a way of designing places that adapt to Autistic and neurodivergent nervous systems, rather than asking us to adapt to rigid, sensory-hostile or socially demanding spaces. This 11-slide training introduces Cavendish Space as a framework for neurodivergent regulation and creative practice, and was first shared as a workshop with the Stimpunks community.
Together, the slides explore regulation as embodied, sensory, relational, environmental and interdependent. They move through the three primordial learning spaces: the campfire for shared meaning and storytelling, the watering hole for connection and co-regulation, and the cave for solitude, rest and sensory autonomy. Neurodivergent love languages such as info-dumping, body doubling and stimming together are honoured as forms of care, not problems to correct.
Inside you will find:
- The aims and a simple workshop flow you can follow or adapt
- What we mean by regulation, and what Cavendish Space is
- Campfire, watering hole and cave spaces explained
- A sensory sock ball creative activity with visual instructions
- Cave-time ideas and campfire reflection questions to close
It is suitable for schools, universities, workplaces, families and community groups, online or in person. Please feel free to use, share and adapt it with your own communities.
