Families, Parents & Carers

A family of five poses together on a forest trail surrounded by lush green and golden autumn foliage. An adult man and woman stand and sit with three young girls, one seated in a pink wheelchair. The family wears coordinated neutral and white outfits, with sunlight filtering through the trees and fallen leaves scattered along the path.

Two Autistic-led courses by David Gray-Hammond and Helen Edgar

Book cover titled “Re-Storying Autism.” The background is a muted blue. At the top, the title “Re-Storying Autism” appears in bold yellow and blue outlined lettering. In the centre is a large rainbow infinity symbol in blended shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Below the symbol, the subtitle reads: “A Framework For Families, Parents, And Carers: Reimagining Support For Autistic People.” At the bottom, the authors’ names are listed: David Gray-Hammond and Helen Edgar.

David Gray-Hammond and I have co-authored and created two online courses together, now gathered in the NeuroHub Horizons Project in partnership with NeuroHub Community. Re-Storying Autism is a video course and workbook for parents, carers and Autistic people. Building a Positive Autistic Identity is a gentle, self-paced course written for Autistic people themselves. Both begin from the same place: that difficulty is so often found in the environment around a person rather than inside them.
