Neurofriendly Therapy: Catherine Flynn
I am delighted to have been able to support Catherine Flynn from Neurofriendly Therapy, who has created a set of wonderful & FREE OPEN ACCESS Neurodivergent Neuro-Affirming Glossary Flashcards.
Neurodivergent Neuro-Affirming Glossary Flashcards
(over 120 terms covered!)

Catherine is offering this resource with over 120 flashcards as a free community download via her website Neurofriendly Therapy.
The wonderful open-source artwork serves as a conversation starter to some of the most frequently used words and concepts associated with neurodiversity and also includes some more unique terms and concepts!
Catherine has written the definitions using clear, direct and judgement-neutral language where possible. The history and development of neurodivergence as a
medical term means that the language can at times, carry a pejorative tone. Where possible, Catherine has used the word ‘different’ or ‘difference’ in an intentional way to communicate that there is no deficit that people should be compared to – there is actually no such thing as normal and we need to reframe our thinking – difference not deficit!
This project was partly inspired by a love of art. The images have been sourced from a variety of amazing websites that host copyright-free art. A huge thank you goes out, especially to the following websites for their incredible library of images and the research and archiving that has gone into their work:
The Public Domain Review
WikiArt
The Museo App
Non-AI images have been chosen intentionally for a number of reasons, including to support artists and creatives past and present. Maybe some of these artists were neurodivergent themselves!

Guidance on how to use the cards
Individuals: Empower yourself with knowledge about neurodivergence and educate others. Use the images to reflect on your own relationship with these terms.
Educators: Cards can be used as teaching aids to foster an inclusive learning
environment and encourage debate.
Professionals: Cards can be used during therapy sessions, workshops or training to provide concise information, psychoeducation & neuroaffirmative support.
This wonderful resource is available as a
FREE download on Neurofriendly Therapy website.
It is also integrated into Stimpunks epic Glossary pages.
“If you reject the fundamental premises of the pathology paradigm, and accept
the premises of the neurodiversity paradigm, then it turns out that you don’t
have a disorder after all. And it turns out that maybe you function exactly as you
ought to function, and that you just live in a society that isn’t yet sufficiently
enlightened to effectively accommodate and integrate people who function like
you. And that maybe the troubles in your life have not been the result of any
inherent wrongness in you. And that you true potential is unknown and is yours
to explore. And that maybe you are, in fact, a thing of beauty.” ―
Nick Walker, Neuroqueer Heresies
